Winner of the maiden edition of Miss Africa held in South Africa and 2nd Runner Up of the 2015 Miss Ghana beauty pageant organized by Exclusive Events Ghana, Miss Rebecca Asamoah has expressed her gratitude to the people of Ghana for their support during the competition.

Speaking exclusively to FTV News reporter EKow Burt Fletcher upon her arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, Rebecca stated that her greatest desire is to contribute her quota to drive positively our orientation in regards to African culture and development by leading a campaign that would uphold a united Ghana and Africa.

The Miss Africa Continent pageant was created by South African film producer Neo Mashishi, who said it aimed to empower young African women.

The 24-year-old Ghanaian dental hygienist beat 11 finalists drawn from an original list of 40 contestants from across the continent in the inaugural pageant at in Johannesburg, South Africa on Saturday night, AFP reports.

Miss Rebecca Asamoah said she is very happy and humble to have won the maiden edition of the contest.

She further stated that she was confident of picking the ultimate awards by working on her weakness and basing her strength on the flaws of fellow contestants.

In a related development the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and creative industry, Mrs Dzifa Gomashie who was at the airport to welcome the beauty queen also said Rebecca’s participation in the competition would put Ghana on the map and draw investors and tourists to the country since the focus of the pageant was African driven.

Also the Chief Executive of Exclusive Events, organizers of Miss Ghana beauty pageant, Inna Patty also used the opportunity to correct the perception surrounding the event adding that it is a platform
