Sex for roles doesn’t guarantee success -Jessica Williams

Some wannabe actresses would do whatever it takes to be famous, including sleeping with movie producers but one actress who believes such actresses do not last long is Jessica Williams.

According to the new actress who has featured in movies such as Prince Sam, Mysterious Girls, Mabre Agu, Lil Win and Bukom no actress can make it to the top if she appreciates sex for roles rather than putting her talent to good use. To Jessica, such actions do not guarantee that one will make it. “There are a lot of actresses in Ghana but you can barely count 15 A list actresses. Ask me where the rest are” she told Showbiz in an interview last week.

The graduate of Accra Polytechnic who majored  in Accounting stated that  some  wannabe actresses are too desperate to be famous hence the reason to do anything to please producers.

“How many producers can you sleep with to make it to the top?  A movie producer is likely to take advantage of you once he realises you are desperate to do anything to get a role,” she added.

Although she is not that popular, Jessica who has worked with Jackie Appiah, James Gardiner, John Dumelo and Yvonne Nelson said the onus lies on the actress to prove to the producer that she is talented.

She explained that some actresses had featured in so many movies but had not been successful because they are not talented.

“ You just have to prove to the public that you are good and once they accept you, the producers will rather run after you and not you running after them,” she said.

Using herself as an example, Jessica who has featured in many Tv series among which are  The Storm, Escapade, Living With Trisha and Charade said she had to cut a movie producer off because he demanded nude pictures before giving her a role.

“The first request from the producer was that I send my nude picture to him. When I sent a normal picture, he said that he needed sexy pictures and not a normal one.  I had to cut him off because he was not the right producer,” she revealed.

Born to Mr and Mrs Boateng, Jessica who has featured in commercials for products such as Yazz, Fiesta Condom and Coca Cola said it is her dream to work with renowned female movie producers, Shirley Frimpong- Manso and Leila Djansi.

The  actress admires actresses Roselyn Ngissah and Nana Ama McBrown, and said she is hopeful that she will become a household name on the Ghanaian movie scene if she works hard.

“ I can play all kinds of roles because I am very talented  and look forward to working with Hollywood producers,” she said.
