Dancehall singer Shatta Wale, over the weekend, performed at the campaign launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary nominee for the Tamale Central constituency, Inusah Fuseini.

There has been divergent views on the gesture, but the Mahama Paper star has come out to defend the action, stating that it was an ideal platform to preach solidarity:

“In times like this when the political climate is about to be heated up, we need to intensify our campaign for peace. For this reason, Shatta will take advantage of any stage presented by any political party or movement to preach peace and stability in the country before, during and after the election. However, he will not endorse any political party or its candidate but rather preach peace. That was what we did in Tamale over the weekend”, an official statement says.

The statement also claims that Shatta’s visit to the north also afforded him an opportunity to initiate a process to unite the two biggest acts in the North; Fancy Gadam and Maccasio; “Also we took time to speak to both Maccasio and Fancy to resolve their beef and soon we will have the two of them on a single project to achieve the peace needed”.

Shatta Wale, over the past five years or so, has become a powerful voice in Ghanaian discourse, especially through his music. It is obviously as a result of this that he feels the need to add his voice to the cry for peaceful elections December 7.
