The FADAR, a popular New York-based music magazine has named its top 10 Ghanaian Afrobeat artistes the world needs to know.

The list which was released on July 27, 2015 included rapper Sarkodie, Guru, Edem, Stonebwoy, Joey B, E.L, MzVee, R2Bees, D-Black and missing Castro ‘Da Destroyer’.

According to the magazine, African music has long influenced genres worldwide; starting with the blues in the 19th century which has its roots in the music carried to America’s Mississippi Delta by African people who were forced into the slave trade.

It has also helped to shape merengue, jazz, and of course, rock, but on the Western cusp of the African continent, artistes have adopted their own take on a popularised American sound.

FADAR however recognised the contributions of Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Chief G and The Tribe, Native Funk Lords, Talking Drums, and stated that UK based Ghanaian Disc Jockey, DJ Abrantee named the genre “Afrobeats”.

Do you agree with The FADAR’s list?
