Uncategorized March 14, 2016, Comments OffGhanaian actor, Chris Attoh is confident African filmmakers will in the next 5years start doing movies that will get recognition on world platforms such as the Oscars.
“I can confidently say that in the next five years, we might be doing pictures that will make it into the Oscars and so on and so for,” Chris said on VOA in America last Friday.
The award-winning actor’s projection comes weeks after Ghanaians and Africa have been celebrating young actor, Abraham Attah for making the continent proud as the first young Ghanaian actor to mount the Oscars’ stage.
Speaking on the international radio platform, Chris Attoh was hopeful African filmmakers would make that crossover despite challenges and issues with funding for their movies.
According to him, the African filmmakers have now advanced.
A lot of them are being trained now while they are also poised to make a difference by telling Africa’s stories.
“I am excited because it is a wonderful time to be a Ghanaian actor or African actor right now; because like you said everything is headed back to Africa. It is a great time to be an African filmmaker, telling African stories and you know same way I will liken it to my journey, the industry is only getting better. The kind films or the kind of movies you see today are African stories being told properly, which is something that we always used to pray for. We now have a lot more filmmakers being trained, a lot more filmmakers who want to make a difference, telling our stories. We can always pray for bigger budgets, which one way or the other money is important in the industry but it is exciting times. I can confidently say that in the next five years, we might be doing pictures that will make it into the Oscars and so on and so for,” he indicated.
Chris was on VOA with actress Ama Abebrese, Ghanaian musician and filmmaker; Kobby Maxwell and Nigerian musician Wizboy. He is currently one of Africa’s most celebrated actors and finest TV hosts.
