Hiphop artiste Kwaw Kese has for the first time since he was granted bail spoken about the conditions that existed while he was on remand.

Kwaw, who did some remand time of one month at the Kumasi Central Prisons told Starr FM‘s Bola Ray on Wednesday that he shared a small single room with some 73 other inmates, adding the conditions gave a better meaning to freedom.

“Freedom is expensive…use freedom wisely because it’s very expensive…it’s the most expensive thing…being locked up there is not easy,” he told Bola Ray.

“Being locked up there…not able to see outside… coping with life, was not easy.”

The musician, who is due to return to court on February 5, in the case in which he’s been charged for unlawful narcotics use said he wasn’t treated differently from the other inmates, and suggested that he “went through what every other prison had to go through.”

Kese, who has since returned to mainstream music activity revealed that some of the inmates slept by standing since the room wasn’t spacious to accommodate all 74 of them.

“When you are incarcerated you have to shave off your air.”

The musician was arrested by the police in Ashanti Region on the evening of Saturday November 22, for smoking a substance believed to be cannabis.

On more than one occasion, attempts to secure him bail proved futile, as the trial judge thought the condition on which a bail was being sought for wasn’t adequately backed by evidence.

Several industry persons as well as legal experts argued for his release.
