MTN Ghana organizes MTN Shortz and Open Coffee in Kumasi

MTN Ghana, on Wednesday 29th August 2018, brought together film enthusiasts and local content producers for the first ever MTN Shortz workshop at the Golden Bean Hotel, Kumasi. Industry experts such as Michael Kwaku Ola and Mark Anthony Vorsah, were present to educate participants on the basics of filmmaking.
The MTN Shortz is an online platform launched by MTN Ghana to enable local content producers upload their content such as short films, funny videos, animations, podcasts and games. Content producers who host their content have the chance to earn money while reaching a wider global audience.
Over 200 participants at the MTN Shortz workshop had the opportunity to put into practice what they had learnt by writing their own short film scripts. Some individuals were given a number of prizes for their work.
The MTN SHortz workshop was organized alongside the MTN Open Coffee, a thought leadership initiative that brings together industry professionals to brainstorm on smarter ways of solving key industry issues.
MTN Open Coffee, also held at the Golden Bean Hotel but a day earlier, put the spotlight on issues of intellectual property rights and digital journalism.
The Ghana Intellectual Property Rights Office was present to educate participants on issues of copyright particularly in age of the internet. Emmanuel Dogbevi, Executive Director-Newsbridge Africa was also present to discuss issues of Digital Journalism. Key topics raised included how to monetize online editorial content as well as guarding against fake news.
In all, over 200 individuals participated in the workshops and expressed their appreciation to MTN Ghana for organizing these key workshops.
The MTN Shortz and Open Coffee workshops will continue in Accra from Monday 3rd September to 5th September 2018 at the MTN House, Ridge Accra.
Selected speakers for Accra include Maximus Ametorgoh, Digital Lead/CEO of PopOut, Ivan Quashigah, Filmmaker and CEO of Farmhouse Productions and Yao Ladzekpo, cinematographer and Lecturer at NAFTI.
With over 300 more individuals already registered for the Accra session of the MTN Shortz and Open Coffee, it promises to be exciting.
