The Ghana Music Awards UK (GMAUK) was created to expand and develop the Ghanaian music industry and create recognition for its artists across the globe. “Inspired by music”, it awards excellence in the field and creates an opportunity for cultural exchange.

Regrettably, due to COVID, last year’s event had to be cancelled to ensure the safety of its participants but the award ceremony is back in full swing. Now in its fifth year, the honourary event will acknowledge works released during the period 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021.

A proud sponsor of this year’s event, Sheer Publishing is excited to see the caliber of artists representing the African continent. The Ghana Music Awards UK is a brilliant way to showcase our talent to the rest of the world.

The submissions for the awards are closed and nominees have been elected. These artists will be announced at the official launch party on Friday 23 July at LA Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Ghana’s capital, Accra. According to the organisers, the event will create a platform for Ghanaian music, art, clothing, food and several indigenous Ghanaian dishes. Most important is outlining the Ghana music landscape from traditional Adowa and kpanlogo, highlife, Burger Highlife, Hiplife , Afro beats, Reggae/dancehall and Gospel.

As described on the GMAUK website, organizers are thrilled to pay tribute to the dynamism, creativity and passion of all the nominees, applauding their music and achievements in the UK and beyond.

A list of high profile celebrities and personalities within the industry and other dignitaries will attend this year’s nominee ceremony. This includes artists and their managers as well as international artists from Africa, Europe and United States.

Also included is Sheer Publishing’s Senior Copyright Administrator and Client Liaison for West and Central Africa, Seidu Iddrisu.

Working extensively with musicians across the globe to ensure artists are being compensated for their works, Seidu’s main goal is to bring music copyright education to the Ghanaian music community. Representing Sheer Publishing, he will meet with the nominees and will be hosting a publishing workshop to give artists, especially up-and-coming talent, a better understanding of the publishing industry.

This will not only uplift and educate Ghanaian musicians, but create opportunities for marketing, sales and collaboration.

As a veteran of the Ghanaian music industry, recognized for his work across West and Central Africa, Seidu has been chosen to present an award on the night and he looks forward to sharing some wise words with the audience.

The official award ceremony will be held in London, UK on 9 October 2021. Select Ghanaian artists, who have excelled in their career, will be chosen to perform at the ceremony.
