As it’s become almost a tradition with Sparrow, we had intentions to release a Christmas movie this year. However by March we quickly realized a far more important story was developing. The World Health Organization (WHO) had just declared the coronavirus a global pandemic, and in Accra there were so many stories unfolding about how we were going to deal with this deadly virus.

On the 12th of March Ghana recorded its first two cases of the virus. Accra went haywire, parents were completely panicked about the safety of our children and called for the schools to let the children go home, people were also upset that our airports were still opened, questioning why it was taking the government so long to lock things up. Then people begun to flee from the capital city to anywhere else to avoid an encounter with the mysterious deadly virus. There was chaos but there were also very gripping human stories unfolding.

As Accra and Kumasi went into lockdown, we started making our film, recording unique human stories and the impact the pandemic was having on people’s lives and their loved ones.

US IN BETWEEN was inspired by true events leading up to Accra’s lockdown whiles capturing glimpses of what was also happening around the world. But most importantly we also wanted to show the dedication of our health workers, those who didn’t have the luxury of staying at home and protecting themselves and their loved ones; our frontline workers who put their lives on the line so that we could live and be with our loved ones today.
