The 2016 edition of Viasat1’s spoof awards event, Jigwe Awards, came off Thursday morning at the plush Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.

The event, which was the first to hold outside the studio of Viasat1, was heavily patronised by people from all endeavours including the showbiz industry, sports, and politics.

The Jigwe Awards was also, for the first time, streamed online on Viasat1’s Youtube and Facebook page, with the latter receiving over thirty thousand (30,000) views. Hosted by Derrick Kobina Bonney and Kokui Selormey, the Jigwe Awards kicked off with the green carpet session.

Movie director and musician Kobi Rana opened the main event with a tribute performance to pay tribute to late highlife star Daasebre Gyamenah.

Selly Galley won the first award for Jigwe Celebrity Slayer (Female), while Okyeame Kwame took home the award for the male category. Other winners include Stephanie Benson, DKB, Rashida Black Beauty, Achipalago, Obour, Galaxy, Sarkodie, Wiyaala, Patrice Amegashie, among others.

The Jigwe Awards honours key personalities, individuals and organisations that have attracted the most headlines and have been the most talked about for various reasons during the year.

The 2016 edition of Jigwe Awards was sponsored by Boardroom Men’s Grooming Centre, Zaina Lodge, Dusk Capital Limited, and Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, and also in partnership with some media houses, including Citi FM.
