As part of efforts to stem the spread of COVID-19, a number of Ghanaian celebrities have joined a worldwide campaign to call on people to stay at home.
It is estimated that the movement of people is one of the major factors aiding the spread of coronavirus. It is with this reason some countries have locked down their communities.
As of Tuesday, March 24, 2020, Ghana recorded 52 confirmed cases of the virus. There is currently a debate over whether the country should be locked down or not.
Some persons believe if government would lock the country down later when things get worse, then it would be better to lock down now so the situation doesn’t get out of hand. But there are opposing views that Ghana does not have the capacity to lock down as it may crumple the economy totally.
Others also proposed partial lockdown which allows some key professionals to work.
The government has so far placed a ban on public gathering, closed schools, church activities and funerals. It has also intensified campaigns on using sanitizers, washing of hands and social distancing.
It is feared Ghana may be locked down. But even before a lockdown, some Ghanaian celebrities have been advising their followers to stay home so that they don’t get infected.
They include Nadia Buari, Jackie Appiah, Lydia Forson, Yvonne Nelson, Mimi Andani, Zynnell Zuh, among others.
“All it takes is one person to spread the virus. #Stayathome,” Nadia Buari wrote on Instagram when she shared a video from the Kris Fade Show about the spread of the virus.
“Stay safe and mindful people. Stay inside and wash y’all hands,” Jackie Appiah also wrote on Instagram.
