Wanlov De Kubolor has felt remorseful for his decision to join #FreeKwawKese, a campaign initiated to fight for the freedom of hiplife artiste Emmanuel Botchwey who was arrested on Saturday 22 November 2014 for allegedly smoking cannabis at Pub 2 in Kumasi.

The leader of FOKN Bois in an interview with Abrantepa on Radio Univers in Accra said the crusade #FreeKwawKese by worried friends and fans of ‘Abodam’ is a wrong approach to support him.

Right now I’m worried. I’m worried because I don’t know if I should have even started tweeting about it. I now feel that maybe I made a mistake. Its a mistake because the more light we give the issue, the more pressure the police will feel to prosecute him. The less attention on the issue, the less incline it will be for them to collect something to let him go.

Wanlov who said he doesn’t condone the act of smoking the illegal drug added that “there are certain things I don’t think people should go free for. If it is ‘wee’ they caught him for and it is the same thing I’ve known him for all these years, that is part of his nature which he has been using to entertain Ghana.

To arrest somebody, he is not selling it to anybody, he is not dealing drugs and he is not doing anything harmful to anyone, he’s even let it be known that he happily buys some of his smoking accessories online, such as something similar to these glass pipes online, so as to help companies that create and manufacture smoking equipment, and if you were to ask him, he’d probably say something along the lines that he’s “just spreading the love”. Some people are saying it can be harmful to them – if anything it is harmful to himself only, that is if it is harmful. Cigarettes are harmful, however, people smoke them every day and don’t complain as they do about cannabis.

So if the police are arresting him because it is harmful to himself, then that is a weak law.

Wanlov revealed that many Ghanaians have been left go scot-free after being arrested for smoking marijuana so “Kwaw Kese is somebody who makes us happy in Ghana and should not be used as a scapegoat for the police to pretend like they do their job perfectly because they don’t and we all know the don’t do their job.

He further apologized to the police to release the musician and arrest somebody who is a criminal and also smoke marijuana.

“If they find somebody who is a criminal and also smoke wee and they will want to prosecute that person then fine but just personal consumption of marijuana is not a reason to arrest him”.

Wanlov pleaded that the law which arrests people who smoke marijuana be amended.

Wanlov together with Samini, Afia Schwarzenegger, Shatta Wale, Yaa pono, Kofi Kinaata, Dee Moneey and other Ghanaians celebrities took to social media networks to support the #FreeKwawKese campaign.
